Shower+ Salt Shower: A Sustainable Alternative to the Traditional Salt Bath
What kind of alternative is a salt shower, and why is it worth incorporating into your skincare routine? Is it as simple as showering with salt water to care for your skin?
Here, we’ve got all the answers for you:
Our Sticks+, crafted from pure sea salt, are the first single-use product designed for the shower. They dissolve completely, producing 0% plastic packaging waste compared to conventional bath salts.
Unlike traditional salt baths, which often include flow agents like calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate to prevent clumping, our Sticks+ are free of such additives. These flow agents, allowed in amounts up to 10 grams per kilogram of salt, can unfortunately contribute to skin dryness.
Shower+ harnesses the natural properties of salt, combined with the moisture of the shower environment, to create a unique and sustainable product: the salt stick—completely free of flow agents and perfect for your skincare routine.

COST
Ah, the infamous instantaneous water heater! Energy costs are a key factor, and they’ve been rising significantly due to the global situation. Here's a comparison:
- A salt shower costs approximately €0.60 in energy, while a salt bath costs about €2.52.
- The average product price for a shower+ salt stick is €1.14 per application, compared to €3.39 for a salt bath.
This brings the total cost per application to:
- €1.74 for a salt shower
- €5.91 for a salt bath
Switching to a salt shower not only reduces energy consumption but also saves money while offering a sustainable alternative for your skincare routine.

The purchase price of a Shower+ starter set is €149.00. At first glance, this might seem like a significant investment. However, with the Shower+ salt shower, you start saving money compared to conventional bath salts after just 36 applications.

When used regularly, the salt shower is more cost-effective in the long run, even though the initial purchase price is higher. But why does such a small device cost €149?

SALT
Each Sticks+ weighs 30 grams and is sufficient for one shower. In contrast, a conventional salt bath typically requires an average of 500 grams of salt, while a brine bath can use up to 3000 grams of salt.
In our salt shower, the water contains a salt concentration of 0.3% to 0.5%, similar to the average 0.4% salt content of a traditional salt bath.
However, excessive salt or water that is too hot can cause severe burning on irritated skin, even after a short exposure. For individuals with acute neurodermatitis, these potential side effects are common during a salt bath. In comparison, the running water of a salt shower is much gentler and can help relieve itching and inflammation. It also supports the removal of dead skin cells in a milder way. This makes Shower+ particularly well-suited for sensitive skin. You can find more details on its effectiveness in our study here .
APPLICATION
The recommended frequency of use differs depending on the method. For individuals with skin conditions like neurodermatitis, it’s advised to limit salt baths to a maximum of three times per week. In contrast, the salt shower can be used daily without any concerns, thanks to its excellent tolerability. Unlike a salt bath, no additional moisturizing treatment is necessary afterward.
For salt baths, proper aftercare involves patting the skin dry, planning a 30-minute rest period, and rinsing the skin with clean water. Finally, it’s recommended to apply a moisturizer to replenish hydration.
With the salt shower, the process is simpler. We suggest activating the dissolving of the salt stick during the last 2 to 3 minutes of your usual shower routine, then turning off the water immediately afterward. This allows the salt-infused water to be absorbed into the skin, providing additional moisture. After gently patting your skin dry, you can get dressed right away—no extra steps required.
The duration of the application is another significant difference between the two methods. A salt bath typically lasts 10 to 20 minutes and requires considerable time for preparation. In contrast, the salt shower is quick and convenient, easily integrated into your daily shower routine, and takes a maximum of 3 minutes—depending on the water pressure and temperature.
The recommended temperature for a salt bath is around 38 to 43°C, whereas a salt shower is best enjoyed at approximately 37°C.

WATER CONSUMPTION
Since shower+ is the resource-saving alternative to a salt bath, water consumption naturally plays a significant role. While a typical salt bath at home uses an average of 150 liters of water, a salt shower requires only around 36 liters, depending on the type of showerhead used.
To put this difference into perspective, here’s an example:
If just 1% of all neurodermatitis sufferers in Germany—approximately 4.5 million people—were to replace their weekly salt bath with our salt shower, it would save an incredible 200 million liters of drinking water per year.
