What atopic dermatitis really means

“Just stop scratching.” You’ve probably heard that sentence — or seen the irritated look that comes with it — many times. As if it were a matter of discipline or willpower. But anyone who lives with atopic dermatitis knows: no amount of determination can stop this itch. And often the hardest part isn’t the itching itself, but the constant feeling of having to justify something that simply cannot be switched off.

You wake up in the morning. Your first thought is rarely: How will the day go? More often it’s: How is my skin today? Did I scratch again last night? Is a new flare-up coming?

The itch drives you crazy from the inside. It comes when you just want to sleep. It comes in moments when your mind wants to be somewhere else entirely. And eventually you scratch, even though you know it won’t make the skin better. But in that moment, it’s the only thing that feels like any kind of relief. Many people with the condition know the shame that follows all too well.

On top of that comes the fear of what others might think. Whether they notice the red skin. Whether they ask questions. Some people therefore avoid situations that others take for granted — swimming pools, tight clothing, physical closeness. For many, this has been part of everyday life for months, years, or even decades.

Atopic dermatitis is not only physically demanding. It is mentally exhausting. Most people affected don’t wish for a miracle. They wish for a daily life in which their skin no longer dictates everything else.

There is a moment that many people with atopic dermatitis know well: a holiday by the sea. The first night without scratching. The feeling of simply being in your skin, not fighting against it. Most people know from their own experience how good a holiday on the North Sea or the Mediterranean is for the skin. But as soon as you’re back home, it’s often only a matter of time before the next flare-up arrives.

What helps at the sea is no secret. It’s salt water. And there is a way to bring that into everyday life.

Why saltwater can help – and why it has not been accessible until now

Salt water has been one of the recognized supportive measures for atopic dermatitis for decades. North Sea cures, stays at the Dead Sea, rehabilitation facilities with salt baths — none of this is a coincidence. The positive effect on irritated, sensitive skin is well documented and is used by dermatologists worldwide.

The problem was always the same: At home there is no sea. And without a bathtub, there is no salt bath either. The effect experienced on holiday remained the exception.

shower+ closes exactly this gap.

The founders of shower+

shower+ was developed by people with eczema – for people with eczema. We know eczema from our own everyday lives. For years, we wondered why there was no way to bring the effects of sea salt into our own shower every day. That question is how shower+ was born.

Is a salt shower suitable for your skin condition?

Whether a salt shower is right for your skin depends on a few things—your skin type, the design of your shower, and what you've tried before. Take the 30-second test and find out.

What has changed for Alina

shower+ is a shower attachment that you install between the shower head and the hose. You don’t need to be a plumber – it’s done in just a few minutes, without any tools and without any modifications. After that, the salt shower becomes a permanent part of your daily shower routine.

You shower exactly as usual. At the end of the shower, you activate a lever on the attachment. At that moment, the shower water is enriched with pure sea salt. Once the stick has dissolved, simply turn off the shower so the salt water can absorb into the skin and isn’t immediately rinsed off again.

“I already knew what salt water could do from when I was younger – as a child on the North Sea coast, my skin was always better. But to be honest, I was skeptical whether a shower could really have the same effect. I tried it anyway.”

“After just the first week, my skin was less red. The oozing stopped. So did the bleeding when I scratched. What surprised me most: scratching no longer leads straight to open wounds. My skin has stabilized.”

It works that simply

The Starter Set contains everything you need: the shower attachment, the mounting tool and salt sticks with pure Mediterranean salt.

1

Install the attachment – in just a few minutes

The shower+ attachment fits between your existing shower hose and the wall fixture. No plumber needed, and everything is clearly explained. It works with both showers and bathtubs, and takes five minutes at most.

2

Insert the salt stick, shower as usual

Place the salt stick in the attachment and shower as you normally would. Only at the end of your shower do you activate the lever – that's when the water starts to become enriched with pure, natural sea salt.

3

Turn off the shower, let the salt water soak in and gently pat dry with a towel

Once the stick has dissolved, simply turn off the shower so the salt water can soak into your skin instead of being rinsed straight off.

+

Use it regularly – your skin needs consistency

A single use is a start, but not a result. Using shower+ daily or several times a week gives your skin what it really needs. Most users notice first changes after just a few uses and see visible improvements within the first one to two weeks.
